Why are baby banks needed?
Children are growing up without the essentials they need to thrive. With 4.3 million children living in poverty in the UK and 1 million children facing destitution (Joseph Rowntree Foundation), families are having to make impossible choices between paying the bills, buying food or turning the heating on. Poverty can have a profound impact on babies and young children’s developmental outcomes, lifelong health, education and earning potential.
How do baby banks help?
Powered by local communities, over 300 baby banks across the UK provide a vital lifeline for families in all sorts of challenging circumstances. They create warm, caring places for families to access equipment, products, clothes and toys for their children.
The Baby Bank Alliance
We have formed a national Baby Bank Alliance to ensure that all baby banks can access the funding, goods, volunteers and practical support they need, to be the most effective they can be. We want to bring these independent baby banks together with one voice, to boost the impact of the incredible support they offer and share the stories of the families they help.
